Poonch is a north-western district of Jammu division which also share its boundary with the Line of Control. During the 1947 war between India and Pakistan some of its area went under the control of the Pakistan administered Kashmir. Presently, Poonch has a area of 1,674 sq. kms with Jammu.

The main language spoken there is 'Poonchi' which is quite different than the Duggar Pradesh's language 😃 i.e- Dogri. The district Poonch is divided into six tehsils namely :-
1. Haveli 2. Mendhar
3. Surankote
4. Mankote
5. Balakote
6. Mandi
Major population of the Poonch belongs to :-
Gujjars, Bakerwals, Pahadis, Kashmiris and Rajputs.

Most prevalent religion of Poonch area falls under Islam, then comes Hinduism and the last is with the Sikh community.
How to reach Poonch
Now, talking about the connectivity of Poonch. It is connected to Jammu (winter capital of the J&K state) by an all-weather road. The total distance between Poonch and Jammu is 240 Kms by road. For the Srinagar (summer capital of the J&K state), it is connected by the Mughal Road. There is no rail or air service to Poonch yet.
The Public transport like Buses, 2×2 Video Coaches, Light Motor Passenger Vehicles etc takes about six-seven hours to reach Poonch from Jammu. Upto Jammu one can consider Rail, Road or Air network but after that one has to travel by road only to reach Poonch. The buses from Jammu are available from 5 am to 12 noon. Other type of public transport is available from 4 am to 4 pm.
